1.构成以字母o结尾的名词复数，可分三类
1.1 少数词加-es，常用的有echo, hero, Negro, outgo potato, tomato, torpedo;
在中学阶段，这些词可以这么记忆：
A Negro hero picked up a potato, threw away the tomato and heard the echo.
1.2 绝大多数只加-s，如：bamboo, dynamo, Eskimo, kilo, memo, photo, piano, radio, solo, soprano, studio, zoo等；
1.3 既可加-s又可加-es，如：buffalo, cargo, mosquito, motto, tornado, volcano等。
2.构成以字母f或fe结尾的名词复数，可分三类
2.1 去掉f或fe，加-ves：calf, half, knife, leaf, life, loaf, sheaf, shelf, self, thief, wife, wolf等;
2.2 下面4个名词可直接加-s或去掉f，加-ves：hoof, scarf, staff, wharf等；
2.3 多数加-s，如：belief, chief, cliff, grief, gulf, handkerchief, roof, proof, safe等。
3.一些单复数形式相同的名词，如deer, sheep, means, series, species。
4.一些外来词的复数
4.1 词尾-is变成-es如analysis, basis, crisis, diagnosis, hypothesis（假设）, parenthesis（插句，圆括号）, synopsis（提要，梗概）, thesis（论题，论文）等;
4.2 -um变成-a，如：bacterium, curriculum（课程）, datum（数据）, medium, memorandum（这个也可加-s）等；
4.3 -on变成-a，如：criterion（标准）, phenomenon等；
4.4 -us变成-i，如：nucleus, radius, stimulus, syllabus（教学大纲，也可加-es）, terminus（终点，也可加-es）等；
4.5 -a变成-ae，如：antenna（天线，也可加-s）, formula（也可加-s）, vita（个人简历）；
4.6 -ex/-ix变成-ices，如：index（也可加-es）, appendix（附录，也可加-es）；
5. 只用其复数形式，如：tongs（火钳）, arms（武器）, contents（目录）, scissors（剪刀）, scales（天平）, thanks（谢谢）, the Wangs（王家的人）。
6. 不规则变化
man-men
woman-women
policeman-policemen
child-children
ox-oxen
goose-geese
mouse-mice
tooth-teeth
1、主体名词在前的，变第一个名词为复数
editor-in-chief→editors-in-chief总编
runner-up→runners-up亚军
man-of-war→men-of-war军舰
2、主体名词在后的，变后一个名词为复数
grand-child→grand-children孙儿（女）
air-raid→air-raids空袭
armyman→armymen军人
toothpick→toothpicks牙签
girl-student→girl-students女生
3、由man/woman合成的词通常是两个组成部分都改为复数
man-servant→men-servants男仆
woman-doctor→women-doctors女医生
请注意这样的变换形式有个特点就是这两个词是同位关系
a women teacher=The teacher is a woman.
如果这两个名词不是同位关系，那么其复数形式就是把后面的名词变成复数
woman-hater→woman-haters厌恶女人的人
man-eater→man-eaters食人者
4、如果合成名词里没有主体名词，就在最后一个词的词末加上复数。如：
go-between→go-betweens中间人
drawback→drawbacks缺陷
good-for-nothing→good-for-nothings不中用的人
5、有些合成名词有两种复数形式。如：
mouthful→mouthfuls/mouthsful一口
attorney general→attorneys general/attorney generals总检察长
