Suppose it rains, what shall we do?
句中suppose可以被看成是个连词（假设，假如），作用、含义与if接近。suppose引导一个条件状语从句，后面是主句；句中suppose也可用supposing (that)。
有时它还可以表示“何不”或“要是……会怎么样”，如：
I suggest: suppose we wait a while?
我提议：何不等一会儿？
